The Brighton Box Gallery: Woocommerce store
The Brighton Box Gallery needed a new WooCommerce store to become eligible for the Own Art Loan scheme, and we rebuilt it with a more gallery-like experience for browsing and buying art.
The brief
The Brighton Box Gallery needed a new WooCommerce web store to become eligible for the Own Art Loan scheme, which meant their existing site had to be rebuilt to meet the scheme’s requirements. Alongside that, the brief was to make the store feel less like a typical WooCommerce shop and more like browsing a gallery, with artwork descriptions and information presented in a way that did justice to the pieces themselves.
Because the gallery already had strong Google rankings, migrating to a new site also had to be handled carefully, so search visibility wasn’t lost in the process.
The solution
We redesigned the store to create a more gallery-like experience, remodelling the artwork descriptions and adding helpful information alongside each piece, rather than presenting them as standard product listings. When it came to migrating the website, we built an SEO strategy to preserve the gallery’s Google ranking by replicating the existing information architecture and SEO on the new site, using 301 and 302 redirects where necessary to carry that ranking across.
We also helped with communication strategy during the build process, making sure artists and other partners were kept informed about how long the website build would take and what to expect along the way.
The result
The Brighton Box Gallery now has a WooCommerce store that meets the requirements of the Own Art Loan scheme, with a gallery-like browsing experience that reflects the quality of the artwork it sells. The migration preserved the site’s existing Google ranking, and artists and partners were kept informed throughout the build so the transition caused as little disruption as possible.
